Plastic Garbage Gyre
Far removed from human gaze there are five enormous rotating plastic garbage gyres in the oceans. Numerous myths explain their existence, reference is made to carpets of garbage or a size three times that of the Iberian Peninsula. But in fact these gyres cannot be measured, indeed they cannot even be captured in satellite pictures. How can this phenomenon be presented visually? In his work Gyre (2010) the American artist Jacob Magraw-Mickelson depicts it as a heterogeneous and volatile mass in motion.
