Material Cycles
Over-production and over-consumption lead to enormous amounts of garbage. But what if this were to be avoided from the start or understood as a new raw material? Thinking in terms of cycles offers new holistic approaches for designers, producers and consumers. Particularly in the area of plastics, which are based on valuable oil, material cycles can also be economically attractive to producers. Alongside recycling strategies three such approaches are presented: the life-cycle assessment, the cradle to cradle principle, and zero waste – the vision of a future without waste.
